Section your hair into 6–12 sections, then loosely braid each one at the roots before washing. This keeps tension off your scalp AND gives you easy access to clean it properly. Why does it matter so much? This step prevents slippage at the roots and unraveling at the ends, two of the most common issues when locs are still forming and more vulnerable.
